When should you hire your editor?

A.S.A.P.!

Ideally, your editor will start when you start shooting

Often, filmmakers are so busy with production that hiring an editor is an afterthought. Hiring an editor early on a project can save you money and heartache.

By starting an editor when you start shooting, you will have a professional viewing your dailies as they come in. That way if there is a problem with the camera, film stock, lighting, even the makeup they can alert you right away.

An editor can usually deliver a rough cut within a week of wrapping principle photography. If  you wait to hire your editor, you will have to wait to see a cut.

An editor can  also help you plan how you will process and transfer your dailies so that you have what you need to finish your film correctly in the format you choose.
