
Shelby Siegel has been editing in New York for over eight years. In that time, she has worked with some of the industry’s top directors: Todd Haynes (Velvet Goldmine), Todd Solondz (Happiness), Paul Schrader (Forever Mine), and with Ang Lee on his Oscar winning films, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain. Shelby spent two years working on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire.
After leaving The Wire, she went on to edit a two-disc DVD complete with two hours of additional material for the Oscar nominated documentary Capturing the Friedmans. The DVD was highly successful in it’s own right, winning Best Documentary at the DVD Awards; Best DVD (Overall) at the MipComm Conference and Best Deleted Scenes from DVD Exclusive. Her first feature length documentary, At the Green Line (Dir: Jesse Atlas) won Best Documentary at the DOXA Film Festival in Vancouver and Best Conflict and Resolution film at the 2005 Hamptons International Film Festival. After completing At the Green Line, Shelby worked as an additional editor on Jonathan Caouette ‘s documentary, Tarnation, which screened at Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, and then opened theatrically to great critical success. It won Best Documentary at the LA Film Festival and The Sutherland Trophy, the highest honor at the London Film Festival. Tarnation was also nominated for a Gotham Award and an Independent Spirit Award.
Shelby’s first feature length narrative film, Forgiven (Dir: Paul Fitzgerald) was an Official Selection (Dramatic Competition) at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Her latest project is the feature-length documentary, Helvetica, which is premiering at the 2007 South by Southwest Film Festival.
